February has been a busy month for our Nursery. There has been lot of exciting activities. The month started with Sharon McLeggan the local dentist visiting Nursery to show children how to brush their teeth properly. With the help of her two puppet friends, Barney and Dragon, Sharon showed children how to brush each section of the mouth for about 2-3 minutes.
Children held a mirror and torch and said, “Open your mouth Barney”; added the smallest amount of toothpaste on their toothbrush (only paste the size of your nail) and brushed Barney’s teeth very carefully. Did you know that you should not rinse the toothpaste from your mouth? Rinsing your mouth washes away the flouride which is designed to protect and strengthen your teeth. So when you are brushing your teeth, don’t rinse, if you have to rinse then use mouthwash instead.
Sharon also met with Nursery parents and talked to them about using disclosing tablets to check that their children have cleaned their teeth properly. Making sure that they ate a healthy diet, substitute fruit instead of sweets.
